Did you know that wood shutters are great natural insulators? Wooden shutters are far more than decorative; their original purpose was to keep the elements out. With energy costs rising, they can be used to lower your utility bills. That is why houses and businesses in decades past all had shutters and ceiling fans.

The rising cost of energy prompted us to start using ceiling fans for their original purpose: to keep us warmer or cooler while spending less on air conditioning or heat. Shutters are making a comeback for the same reasons: to save us money.

When a cold wind blows on your windows the area near them will be colder. Try feeling a window that the sun is shining directly on. See how hot it is? Shutters can be used to block out that heat in the summer and keep out the cold wind in the winter.

By opening and closing shutters you can block out the heat of the sun during the summer and cold winds during the winter. You don’t even have to do this every day. You can leave some shutters closed some times of the year. In the summer, close the shutters on the windows where the rising or setting sun shines most directly. In the winter, close the shutters on the windows where the north wind blows strongest or when storms are expected.

Shutters also protect your furniture, draperies, carpeting and flooring from sunlight damage caused by UV light. Did you know that three quarters of the materials commonly used in carpet (olefin, wood and nylon) have poor resistance to sunlight? Even polyester, which has good sunlight resistance, can be damaged.

In draperies, constant exposure to the rays of the sun is destructive to the fabric of your drapes. Dark and bright colors are especially affected by color fading and streaking. Over time, sunlight causes drapery fabric to deteriorate and dry rot. Cotton, rayon and acetate are more affected than acrylic or polyester.

Sun damages your furniture just as much as it does your draperies and carpets. Wood dries out, upholstery fabrics fade, streak and rot, and leather furniture is especially susceptible. Furniture should be positioned out of the direct sun or protected by closing your shutters.

Wood shutters benefit you by lowering your heating and cooling costs and protecting the money you spend on furniture, draperies, carpeting and flooring in your home. Did you know you can get better quality wood shutters by buying directly from the manufacturer? They can be challenging to find so we are sharing links to those we were able to locate in our Pricing Exterior Shutters Hubpage. There are some great photos of installed shutters identified by type in our photo slideshow there so you can see which shutter styles you prefer.

Spend less and get superior quality Wood Shutters by buying directly from the manufacturer. Manufacturers can be difficult to find so go to Frank Wright’s Hubpage for more information and where to buy Wooden Shutters. Don’t miss the beautiful photograph slide show there.

Quality modular home dealers are the dealers who are ready to offer you fair pricing and back it up with good support. Locating that dealer that will help you find your perfect home may be a little difficult and frustrating. It is not like shopping for a new car or refrigerator as there are no specialty magazines for comparing dealers or to learn what experts recommend.

Each modular home dealer, just like each home builder, has a different kind of service and skill level. They use different techniques and different materials for their homes and their pricing varies according to the materials they use and how they use them. This makes it very difficult for the average consumer to make a proper comparison of dealers. To add to things there are different package deals that they will offering which make the choices even more confusing.

All this does make it difficult to even know the best place to begin looking for the right home. There will be many things that will be the responsibility of the buyer from their personal budget and financing for the home to the right plans for the right building site. It is very important to have a dealer that will help them through the process and make it easier to choose correctly as they go along.

To make a decision on the best dealer it is good to understand what the job of the dealer really is all about. This way you can compare dealers and evaluate their service, pricing and their products.

Don’t hesitate to ask your prospective dealer questions not only about their product, service and pricing but about their specific credentials. It is always good to ask for references and follow up with a couple to see how other consumers feel about their product and service.

When you start looking for your modular home you will find many dealers. The good dealer should have exceptional knowledge of their product, know the availability of their homes and have a lot of patience with you and your questions. The best dealer will take time to give you plenty of information on their product and what you will need to do in the process of having your modular home built. You need to feel confident that they will help you take care of all the responsibilities that you will have in the process.

The dealers that you are interested in working with should be willing to provide a blanket estimate for the cost of the home and a time of completion from start to finish. This will not be a very detailed estimate but will give you a very good idea of the right dealer for your needs.
